AI & Web @ Huawei | W3C | Chromium | Servo
Shubham Gupta
Open-source contributor focused on the web platform and browser engines. I help build Servo, contribute to Chromium and W3C web-performance standards, and develop apps across mobile and the web.
About
A short introduction to who I am and what I work on.
I build the web — literally. Most of my work lives at the browser-engine and platform layer: implementing web standards, making rendering fast, and keeping billions of users' browsing secure. I'm a committer on Chromium, a contributor to Servo (the memory-safe Rust browser engine), and a member of the W3C Web Platform working groups.
Experience
Where I've worked and what I shipped.
Senior Software Engineer
- Building Servo, the next-generation browser engine in Rust, focused on performance, safety, and modern web standards.
- Orchestrated WebNN support in Servo with Google's TFLite framework, demonstrated at Igalia's WebEngineHackFest 2026.
- Architected and deployed the full-stack backend framework for LiteRT and CANN in RustNN, using AI-driven development pipelines.
- Represented at W3C TPAC 2025, presenting LCP and its implementation in Servo.
- Engineered missing Fetch API components, enabling 1,000+ Web Platform Test passes.
- Implemented Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) benchmarking and added Viewport Meta support.
- Resolved missing W3C performance-spec steps, adding 2,000+ new WPT passes.
- Built the parallelization framework for OHOS WebView, improving loading time by 19% and cutting main-thread load by 40%.
Software Engineer II
- Refined features to deliver an experience that resonates with the Voice of Customers.
- Collaborated on restoring folder windows and tabs on logon for Windows 11, automatically reopening previous sessions.
Software Engineer II
- Led a squad of 8+ developers across Samsung Internet modules (Graphics, Media, History & Downloads).
- Implemented History Sync CRUD APIs for seamless cross-device profile sync.
- Integrated Performance Manager, yielding a 20% device performance gain.
- Improved code quality through refactoring and design patterns, reducing lines of code by 10%.
Software Engineer
- Developed Secret-Download, enabling users to save and manage incognito downloads in the Secret Vault.
- Added support for the full set of interactive-widget viewport meta tag values, enabling responsive web browsing.
- Fixed 5+ Samsung SVE security bugs for a faster, more secure browsing experience.
- Raised test coverage across multiple modules from 30% to over 85%.
Software Engineering Intern
- Developed an Android browser using Google's WebView, focusing on an intuitive, user-friendly experience.
- Experimented with browser features like Download, JavaScript, and AR/VR and their impact on user experience.
